The Tale of Two Basset Hounds: A Reminder to Enjoy Life's Simple Pleasures

Flash back to this time last year: Outside of Cafe 64 in Old Orchard Beach, Basset Hounds Doug and Marty cuddled together underneath a picnic table as small fragments of light danced through the shadows and across their fur.

The weather was temperate and the day was still young. Our photographer quietly approached, hoping to capture the shared simplicity of their special moment.

The doggie duo, however, sensed a new presence was near and bolted awake. Half asleep, they wagged their tails and sniffed feverishly at the camera.

Perhaps they thought the camera was a treat or a ball they could chase around. To their disappointment, it was neither edible nor enticing.

In what humorously felt like a coordinated refusal to cooperate, Doug and Marty wagged their tails, danced in circles, lolled their tongues and let out a few gentle barks.

The photographer waited, hoping the dogs would resume their positions, but the duo decided against it.
This image may not capture the candid moment our photographer hoped for, but it does tell a special story and teaches a valuable lesson.

When things in life don't go as planned, it's important not to dwell on what could have been. Instead, we must move forward, and try to think of all the possibilities that could be.

And like Doug and Marty, we must also allow ourselves to slow down and enjoy life's simple pleasures.
