Paula Bedard Honored with A. William Kany Jr. Community Service Award

SACO, Maine (September 18, 2024) — Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution (SBSI) has proudly announced that Paula Bedard, Legal Administrative Specialist, has been awarded the 2024 A. William Kany Jr. Community Service Award. This accolade is a testament to her unwavering commitment to community service and her profound impact on those around her.

The award, established in 2007 to honor the legacy of former SBSI president A. William Kany Jr., recognizes individuals who embody his spirit of generosity and public service. After a seven-year hiatus, the award has been reinstated, shining a light on the extraordinary efforts of employees like Paula who go above and beyond to serve their communities.

Receiving the award, Paula shared, “It is such an honor to receive this award. I had the privilege of knowing Mr. Kany and the truly remarkable man that he was. I am truly humbled by this recognition.”

Bill Kany, Executive Vice President at SBSI and son of the late A. William Kany Jr., expressed his admiration for Paula's dedication.

"This year’s recipient is someone who is always helping others," he said. "Whether it's through her smile, willingness to engage, or unparalleled generosity, Paula is constantly fundraising and helping those in need from here and afar, all while staying true to her faith."

Paula’s volunteerism is deeply rooted in her work with Good Shepherd Parish. Furthermore, her dedication shines through her involvement with the Knights of Columbus #12941, where she has dedicated hundreds of  hours to preparing pie crusts from scratch for their mini pie fundraiser and assisting during their yearly Thanksgiving dinner.

Her commitment to service reaches across the globe, as evidenced by a trip to Uganda where she visited the Rubanda Solidarity School. This international effort underscores the breadth of Paula's compassion and her drive to make a difference in communities both near and far.

Mark Jones, President/CEO of SBSI, also praised Paula's contributions. "Paula is a master planter, sowing seeds of kindness and service wherever she goes. The selection committee unanimously chose her as the deserving recipient, recognizing her remarkable ability to touch lives and make a difference."

Paula's professionalism and genuine desire to help others have made her an invaluable member of the SBSI family and the wider community. Her actions reflect the very essence of the award—planting seeds of goodwill that grow into beautiful outcomes.
